Botanical Description

: A tendril climber. Stem 0.3 – 0.5 cm in diameter or more, ribbed when young, striated when mature, flaking and brownish when dried, entirely glabrous. Tendrils green, turning brown, arising from the node opposite of the leaf, spirally coiled. Leaves alternate, pedately compound; 5.5 – 13 cm long, 2.5 – 8.5 cm width; petioles 2 to 2.5 cm long, 0.3 – 0.5 mm diameter; leaflets 5, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, apex acuminate, base acute, margins serrate, nerves pinnately netted, reticulations distinct; petiolule of the middle leaflets usually a little longer, petiolules 3 to 4 mm long, ribbed and glabrous; Flowers with subtruncate calyx; petals free, ovary 2-ovuled. Fruit a berry, globose.

Distribution Ecology

: Laguna, Pollilio, Mindoro, Palawan, Bukidnon. In forest at low altitude.  

Other Economic Uses

In Java Indonesia, used as refreshment and cure for cough (Kuswanto and Krisantini, 2015).
