Botanical Description

A tendril climber. Stem 0.2 – 1 cm or more in diameter, with watery sap, glabrous, nodes distinct.  Branchlets terete, with longitudinal ridges, with sparse, appressed versatile hairs; tendrils green, arising from the node opposite of the leaf, spirally coiled. Leaves spirally alternate, shallowly serrated, cordate, apex acuminate to cuspidate, base cordate, lamina 4.8 – 10.5 cm long x 4.2 – 7.5 cm broad, coriaceous, petiole 1 – 7.2 cm long,0.1 – 0.15 cm in diameter, swollen at the base. venation palmately netted, actinododromous with 5 prominent veins arising from the base. Flowers in 3-5 cm long peduncles; calyx pubescent on the outside, disk 4-lobed, ovary short hair. Fruit berry, globose.

Thickened and forest edges at low to medium elevation.
