Botanical Description
A twiner. Stem 0.3 cm or more in diameter, exuding milky sap, lightly fissured; nodes distinct; internodes 4-12 cm long; outer bark dark brown, mottled with cream and light brown; inner bark light brown. Leaves opposite, simple, entire, elliptic to ovate, apex acuminate, base obtuse; blade 3.8-13.2 cm long, 1.4-5.5 cm broad, glabrous; petiole 0.5–.5 cm long, 0.1 cm in diameter, grooved and wrinkled; venation pinnately netted, kladodromous with numerous, thin, lateral nerves. Inflorescence in axillary cymes. Flowers pentamerous; calyx cleft, inside segments broadly ovate; corolla salver-shaped, widened at the intersection of the stamens, glabrous within; stamens about the middle of the corolla tube included; filaments very short; anthers free from the stigma, ovate lanceolate, glabrous, ovary 2-celled, many-ovuled; style short, glabrous; stigma with a bifid mucro, not collared. Fruits a berry, globose with fleshly pulp, many-seeded.
Distribution Ecology
In Luzon, Sibuyan, Panay and Catanduanes. Endemic to the Philippines. In primary and secondary forest and low and medium altitudes.
